Leisha Hailey, actress and musician in electropop group Uh Huh Her, was traveling with her partner on a Southwest Airlines flight on September 26, 2011 when they were removed from the plane after a PDA. Leisha took to her Twitter to protest their treatment by the airline.
Southwest Airlines has requested details of the incident via Twitter, as they did in the recent incident where they threw Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong off one of their flights for refusing an order to stop and pull his pants up higher while trying to maneuver himself and his luggage to his seat while boarding, and he took to Twitter to comment (he was able to board the following flight without issue), but have not yet released a statement.
(UPDATE: See Southwest’s statement at end of this post)
Southwest Air seems to be becoming infamous for receiving Twitter callouts on discriminatory treatment of passengers since the Too Fat To Fly incident involving filmmaker Kevin Smith in February of 2010, where he raked airline personnel publicly for their humiliating treatment of himself and other passengers arbitrarily deemed too heavy for SW’s seats.
Statement Regarding Southwest Airlines Customers Removed from Flight 2274
SEP 26 2011
Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender. The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight. We regret any circumstance where a passenger does not have a positive experience on Southwest and we are ready to work directly with the passengers involved to offer our heartfelt apologies for falling short of their expectations.
So, readers… what do you think of SWA’s “Statement”?
