Disney Bans Metal Bands…Kinda. Sorta. Not Really? I’m Confused.

Mickey Mouse apparently has very specific taste in metal. I mean, I don’t blame him for being picky, it’s got to be hard to headbang with those ears.

The situation: Skeletonwitch was booked to play a show at the House of Blues at Downtown Disney on January 27, 2014 along with Amon Amarth and Enslaved. Note the “was,” because at some point the booking agent for the other two bands contacted Skeletonwitch and apologized to them, saying that Disney had decided that Skeletonwitch couldn’t play the show.

They aren’t alone. Machine Head, Exodus and Gallows have also been told they can’t play the House of Blues location on Disney park grounds. Machine Head claimed they were told the issue was with their “violent imagery,” “inflammatory lyrics” and “undesirable fans.” Gallows was apparently also told their lyrics were an issue.

Now, please note, Disney is not putting out a blanket ban on metal. We Came As Romans are slated to play the venue this month, in fact. And we have no official statement from Disney regarding the issue, so no way of knowing why Skeletonwitch was told not to play while the other bands were given a thumbs up.

You can check out an interview with Scott Hendrick, guitarist for Skeletonwitch, where he discusses the banning and discusses the alternate plans the band may be making for the evening (Warning: the video does contain explicit language). And no, they do not include riding Space Mountain over and over again until they get sick.
