1st Annual Chinook Music Festival Kicks Off With A Bang! (Naches, WA)

The first annual Chinook Music Festival went off with a bang! The festival which was the brain child of Roots Rock band Cody Beebe and The Crooks, showcased a plethora of music groups ranging from roots rock, indie, and even experimental. The festival took place at The Jim Sprick Community Park; located outside of Naches, WA on the Yakima, River. I had the gracious opportunity to be asked to shoot the festival as the “official festival photographer.”

The three day festival featured the likes of bands such as: Ben Union, Blake Noble, Aaron Daniel’s One Man Banned, and festival founders Cody Beebe and The Crooks, performed to a packed audience of festival goers. Many people also took advantage of the camping opportunities that Jim Sprick Community Park offered.

The festival also did well in numbers as well bringing in hundreds of festival goers and guaranteeing that the festival would be back next year, and with a bigger lineup than before. I can’t really say who my favorite band was as I enjoyed everyone on the bill. But Ben Union, and Blake Noble really impressed me. Another stand out was Aaron Daniel One Man Banned; if you dig Reggie Watts and TuNe yArds, you’ll really dig Aaron.

So this marks the 2nd time this year I have shot Theory Of A Deadman. I had actually shot the band in Kennewick, WA last January and drove in some of the nastiest weather Eastern Washington had seen in over 15 years. Anywho, to my surprise TOAD was making a comeback to Eastern WA and this time it was Yakima for the annual Central Washington State Fair. The fair (as what we call it) has been on a roll the past couple of years bringing in some awesome bands for it’s annual concert series. And TOAD didn’t disappoint either, as they had performed to a sold out crowd. Performing hits such as Lowlife, Bad Girlfriend and The Bitch Came Back, TOAD made sure the fans went home happy.

80′s heart throb and pop sensation Rick Springfield performed to a huge crowd at this year’s Central Washington State Fair.  Most people probably remember Springfield for his 1981 classic hit Jessie’s Girl , or his acting gig on daytime soap General Hospital, as Noah Drake. However, you probably didn’t know that he has a new album due out in October and an autobiography that made Rolling Stone magazine’s top 10 Rock Autobiographies of all time. He is also vegan as well! Springfield didn’t disappoint the fans in attendance, he even came into the crowd and had fans join in on his hit song Don’t Talk To Strangers, and even brought two girls ages 3 and 15 on stage and even showered the crowd with rose petals, while jumping around on stage like a 21 year old. Many people who had attended this year’s show, also attended his last performance at the fair grounds over 30 years ago (including my wife). I was lucky enough to be able to cover the show for KFFM.com/Doom!-Magazine.
